Tenor Birger Radde has been lauded for his "impeccable, lyrical tone" and his "stylish and lively interpretations" which makes him equally at home on both the opera and concert stages. In 2005 he made his operatic debut at the Leipzig Opera as Nathanel in "Les contes d'Hoffmann". This performance was followed by several engagements including: Helenus in "Les Troyens" by H. Berlioz, 1. Fremder in the Operetta "Der Vetter aus Dingsda" by E. Künnecke and Remendado in "Carmen" by G. Bizet with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra.
Past seasons have included Belfiore in "La finta giardiniera" and Tamino in "The magic flute" both by W.A. Mozart, Peter Quint in "The turn of the screw" by B. Britten and Kornelis in "La princess jaune" by C. Saint-Saëns. In summer 2008, Mr. Radde will perform the title role in "L'Orfeo" by C. Monteverdi at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, USA.
After finishing his studies at the Dresden and Leipzig conservatories with Professors Ilse Hahn and Hans Joachim Beyer, Mr. Radde received a scholarship from Yale University where he continued his studies with Professor James Taylor. Master classes with Rudolph Piernay, Norman Shetler, Christoph Prègardien, Ellen Hargis, Julianne Baird, Christian Gerhaher and Jane Glover have complimented his vocal education.
In numerous operatic performances and concerts, Mr. Radde collaborated with conductors Helmut Rilling, Phillipe Herreweghe, Marc Albrecht, Pedro Halffter, Stephen Layton, Attilio Cremonesi, Claude Schitzler, Simon Carrington and Graham O' Reilly. He has also appeared with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Leipzig Baroque Orchestra, Soloists of the Staatskapelle Dresden, Bach Collegium Stuttgart and Hannoversche Hofkapelle in such notable venues as the Gewandhaus Leipzig, Semperoper Dresden, Konzerthaus Berlin, Laiszhalle Hamburg and Liederhalle Stuttgart.
Possessing a strong interest and extensive repertoire in Art Song and Lied, Mr. Radde has given various song recitals ranging from Purcell, Schubert and Schumann cycles to contemporary compositions.
